Recruiting, retaining and engaging young accountants is a strategy that has evolved over the past few years. As younger millennials and Gen Z take over the entry ranks of many finance departments, employers are well advised to study the different motivators and priorities for young people today.

We were delighted to be invited to speak on a series of webinars with Gareth John, Chairman and Director of Accounting Training at First Intuition earlier this year, with over 100 employers attending each event – testament to the importance of the issue.

First Intuition have produced one of the most powerful reports for employers that we have seen in recent years. They have surveyed 302 of their students who are enrolled on their accountancy training courses across the UK, asking them:

  • How they look for a job and factors in selection.
  • Major motivators.
  • Considerations in moving jobs.
  • Which benefits are important to them.

The result is a comprehensive and easy-to-use guide for any employer with a finance department and who is looking to capitalise on the evolving EVPs to suit the current candidate cohort. Some of the headlines that we picked out:

58% of ACA, ACCA, CIMA newly-qualifeds plan to look for a new role after qualifying.
50% of Graduates are using TikTok as a media to find a new role
52% value flexible hours
Recruitment Consultancies are the most used method for candidates to use to find a new role.

We have shared this document with a good number of our clients to help them with their people strategies and to develop their EVP. You can download the full report from the First Intuition website here.
