The BetterYou EVP: Where Wellbeing Leads the Way

EVP: How BetterYou Is Building a Culture of Wellbeing from the Inside Out

Lucy Miles speaks to Louise Wojtowycz, Head of HR

Wellbeing isn’t just a perk – it’s a culture shift

With 63% of HR leaders citing mental health and employee wellbeing as their top priority, it’s clear that wellbeing is no longer just a nice-to-have—it’s a business imperative. Source

But what if wellbeing wasn't simply a programme within your EVP (Employer Value Proposition), but something woven into the very fabric of your workplace culture?

At BetterYou, a trailblazer in smart fast absorbing nutritional spray supplementation and topical magnesium, wellbeing is more than a product, it’s a way of life internally. Founded and headquartered in South Yorkshire, BetterYou isn’t just selling health to its customers; it's fostering it among its team.

At our recent Menopause at Work workshop, we met HR leader Louise Wojtowycz and her People & Culture Assistant, Kaylah Wright, whose standout approach to employee wellbeing caught our attention. In a sector where engagement can easily become a tick-box exercise, BetterYou’s long-term, values-led approach sets a powerful example. We speak to HR professionals across the region daily, and the work the team at BetterYou have done is at a stand-out level and worth sharing.

Wellbeing: From strategy to everyday practice

Embedding a culture of care goes far beyond offering yoga classes or fruit bowls. A holistic approach to wellbeing not only strengthens recruitment and retention but improves performance, engagement, and loyalty.

Despite over 80% of HR professionals stating wellbeing is important to their business strategy, only 55% of employees believe their organisation prioritises it. Source

So, what makes BetterYou different?

Top-down commitment to employee wellbeing

Wellbeing at BetterYou begins with its leadership. CEO and Founder Andrew Thomas, along with Louise Wojtowycz, have built a business model that places human health, inside and out, at its centre.

“We provide options for people to be their best self in and out of work and make the right choices for long-lasting, sustainable health. After all, it’s what we do for our customers—why wouldn’t that be our internal ethos too?” – Louise Wojtowycz

Inclusive education & empowered teams

At BetterYou, training and education are foundational. Every employee is empowered to understand, access and champion wellbeing:

Neurodiversity awareness:
  • Company-wide training, with leadership deep dives and optional neurodiversity profiles to inform individual support.
Health awareness campaigns:
  • Initiatives around Mental Health Week, Men’s and Women’s Health Weeks, menopause, sleep, cancer checks and more.
Best-self conversations:
  • New starters complete a “Best Self” questionnaire with their line manager to establish working styles, stress indicators and support needs.
Everyday tools:
  • Free access to Calm and MyMindPal apps, SAD lights, personalised DSE assessments, and hybrid desk setups.

Wellbeing built by employees, for employees

The Social, Engagement & Wellbeing Committee, made up of peer-nominated employees, co-designs the annual wellbeing calendar and engagement activities, including:

  • Monthly randomised interdepartmental lunches (offsite and company-funded)
  • Pre-start welcome events and buddy schemes
  • Team lunches on day one to foster connection from the outset

Deeply personal, authentically aligned initiatives

Recognising that wellbeing is personal, BetterYou offers an array of options across nutrition, mental health, physical activity and purpose:

  • Four-month company-wide nutrition course
  • Monthly vitamin allowance and vitamin deficiency testing
  • Weekly healthy snacks and magnesium water fridge
Physical & preventative health:

  • Cycle-to-work scheme, walking meetings, 3G football
  • Gym discount portal
Mental health & emotional support:

  • Mental Health First Aiders (male & female)
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme access with up to six counselling sessions
  • Regular wellbeing check-ins, strategy socials, and offsites
Giving back with purpose:
  • 12 paid volunteer days annually
  • Quarterly packing events for their chosen charity, Baby Basics, donating 8,000+ items per year
  • Matched charity donations and £250 charity donation gift for 10-year anniversaries
  • Certified B Corp business, demonstrating commitment to the environment, community and its workers

Listening, adapting, improving

Despite working with a small HR team and limited budgets, Louise and Kaylah continuously improve their offering based on employee feedback.

“We’ve tweaked our benefits several times, for example we extended football sessions, increased massage frequency, and removed the discount portal when usage was low to invest in other areas of wellbeing that our staff genuinely love. We keep listening and adapting, holding review sessions with staff regularly.” – Louise

Employee referrals now account for 20% of new hires, and the most valued initiative in the latest engagement survey-charitable giving and volunteering.

A Culture that drives recognition

BetterYou has earned Best Companies’ 2-Star ‘Outstanding to Work For’ accreditation and is recognised among the Top 100 Small Companies to Work For, a testament to the strength of its culture and employee voice.

Initiatives include:

  • Regular ‘Stay Interviews’ and engagement surveys
  • Employee-led feedback into wellbeing strategy
  • Calendar-based campaigns from Mental Health Week to Employee Appreciation Day

  • Winter Fridays (3pm finish, Nov–Feb)
  • BetterYou Days Off (for wellbeing, birthdays, anniversaries, or rest)
  • Gifted days for Christmas
  • Holiday Buy Scheme (up to 5 extra days)

Financial & Career Wellbeing

Support for long-term security and personal development is part of the package too:

  • Life insurance (2x salary)
  • Access to a wealth consultant
  • Funded qualifications, CPD, career plans and bonuses

Final word: Walk the Talk

“Our initiatives are deliberately diverse, deeply personal and authentically aligned with our brand and ethical values. But more importantly, they’re genuinely inclusive, this is not just a strategy; it’s the BetterYou way. Our staff know we genuinely care, it’s for them, not for our awards or ticking a wellbeing strategy or policy box.” – Louise

Wellbeing isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. Whether you’re starting your journey or looking to level up, BetterYou shows that even with a lean team and limited budget, commitment and creativity go a long way.

Prioritising wellbeing delivers measurable benefits in retention, productivity, mental health, workplace culture, and a stronger sense of belonging.

  • Offering financial wellbeing tools.
